Puppy and Kitten Care

Starting Your New Pet Off on the Right Paw: Puppy & Kitten Care at Arlington Heights Veterinary Hospital

More than 40 years of experience working with puppies and kittens has taught us much about the unique needs of these young animals. Arlington Heights Veterinary Hospital offers specialized care plans for new pets, with individual attention to the things that make each pet different.

Puppy & Kitten Services

Keeping the unique needs of each new pet in mind as we proceed with care, our veterinarians offer young dogs and cats a variety of services designed to lay the foundation for lifelong health and wellness. These include:

  • Comprehensive physical exams
  • Booster shots
  • Vaccinations against the most common canine and feline pathologies including:

                 Rabies
                 Distemper
                 Parvovirus
                 Influenza
Bordatella - especially recommended if your pet often interacts with other animals
                 Feline leukemia

  • Deworming
  • Take-home care packs for new pet owners
  • Owner consultation at every stage

Spaying & Neutering

We recommend spaying or neutering no earlier than 6 months of age. The benefits of this simple procedure are many and can save owners and pets alike a great deal of unwanted stress by modifying pet behavior in a positive way. You can learn more about the benefits of spaying and neutering by visiting the pet resources section of our site and by looking over this informative article on spaying and neutering from the American Humane Society.

Working With You

As we treat your new pet to the best care possible, we make it a point to work alongside you as our patient's owner and primary caretaker. Our veterinarians are happy to give consultations on booster shots, spaying, neutering, vaccinations, and just about anything else that you may have questions about. We aim to outline what to expect and when during your pet's first year of life, with recommendations on nutrition and various aspects of home care.

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding proper care at home for new puppies and kittens.
